Papua New Guinea: CHEC Nabs Lae Port Project
Recently, China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC) won the bid for Phase 1 of the tidal terminal involved in the development project of Lae Port, Papua New Guinea (PNG), with a contract value of about 285 million U.S. dollars and a construction period of 30 months.
The project is located in the west of the original port area of PNG’s second-largest city Lae. Phase 1 involves construction of a driving new port area, a 240m ×40m general terminal, a road, a yard and auxiliary port facilities, etc.
The successful bid marks CHEC has entered the PNG market and laid a solid foundation for further developing the South Pacific market.
