Pakistan: Karachi Harbour Dredging Project Still Pending

According to brecorder.com, fishing vessels are facing serious navigational problems to steer into Karachi fish harbour because the channel draft has reached its lowest level.

Karachi Fish Harbour Authority (KFHA) is waiting for a response from Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to dredge the sea passage, sources said on Saturday.

“We (KFHA) are still waiting for the KPT reply that when it would start the dredging operations as level of draft has phenomenally reduced due to spilling of mud and other kind of dirt into the harbour channel,” the officials said.

KPT has agreed to carry out the much needed dredging to deepen the water channel but the KFHA has so far received no clear response from the Trust that how long the dredging would take to start.

According to some officials, KPT agreed to do the dredging by hiring private firm to employ a small size of machinery.

The dredging project would be carried out in different phases, as KFHA wants to manage the movement and parking of the in-out fishing boats.
