USA: Massey’s Landing Channel Needs Dredging

According to CapeGazette, a sandbar near Massey’s Landing has stranded its share of boats lately and state officials are asking boaters to avoid it.

Last time I saw it this bad was 2001,” said Chuck Williams, program manager for the Division of Watershed Stewardship of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. “Right now there is no defined channel through Massey’s. I’m encouraging boaters to avoid Massey’s Landing so they don’t run aground.

The only way to clear out the sand is by dredging. The Army Corps of Engineers is supposed to maintain the channel because it’s federal property. Since the corps announced it has no money to dredge, Williams said the state is looking into ways to clear out the extra sand.
