 River Niger Dredging Successful and Beneficial

Alhaji Ahmed Yar’Adua, the Managing Director of National Inland Water Ways (NIWA), said that the Lot 5 dredging site of the River Niger is successful and done according to specification.

Yar’Adua made this known during the visit of the members of the House Committee on Marine Transport in the area to ascertain the level of work, according to allAfrica.

Addressing the committee during on the spot assessment of the project, he said that the contract was awarded to Lloyds Technical Company Ltd to undertake both capital and maintenance dredging.

He also said: “The company has completed capital dredging and the first year of maintenance dredging; only the second year maintenance dredging is left.”

Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Marine Transport, who spoke on behalf of the committee disclosed that the committee was on ground to assess the project stressing that the committee would also visit other places that dredging was taking place before making their report known to the appropriate quarters.
