USA: Former FDEP Regional Director Joins Lewis, Longman & Walker

Former Florida Department of Environmental Protection Southwest Office Director, Deborah Getzoff has joined Lewis, Longman & Walker as Of Counsel. Lewis, Longman & Walker is a statewide law firm specializing in government and environmental issues.

Due to her eleven years as Southwest District Director for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Ms. Getzoff has extensive experience with permitting, compliance, enforcement and outreach management.

As the head of a 12-county regulatory DEP office based in Tampa, she was responsible for permitting some of the most complicated and innovative environmental projects in Florida, including the largest seawater desalination plant in the United States, the Gulfstream Natural Gas pipeline, and working with local governments and scientists to protect two National Estuaries.

My experience in the public and private sectors and my life experience has led me to Lewis, Longman & Walker and to a practice that focuses on win/win outcomes,” she said. “I’ve learned that when everyone ‘wins,’ the outcome is not only better, it’s longer lasting.”

Deborah brings a wealth of experience and depth to our team,” said Kenneth Spillias, Managing Shareholder of Lewis, Longman & Walker. “We see things differently, and so does Deborah.”

In addition to her extensive public sector experience, Ms. Getzoff was a shareholder at the Fowler White Boggs Tampa and Tallahassee offices for eleven years. She successfully represented private and public clients in administrative and environmental law at both state and federal levels. Her representation included permitting and approvals for land development and coastal projects, beach nourishment, marinas, landfills and petroleum tank approvals.

An active Florida Bar Member, Ms. Getzoff received her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. She has presented environmental law courses for the Florida Chamber Short Courses, Florida Bar Seminars, and CLE International, and has been an invited speaker for the Florida Local Environmental Resource Agencies, Inc., Florida Engineering Society and the local chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association.
