Australia: Bathurst Dredging to Reduce Flooding Risk?

According to the ABC Central West News, environmental and other concerns have been raised about one of the options being considered to reduce the risk of flooding across the Great Western Highway at Bathurst.

One solution is to dredge the Raglan Creek to make it deeper and wider.

The Bathurst Regional Council asked its engineers to report on the dredging proposal.

The report says some members of the Bathurst community may prefer the open waterway dredging would provide but it recommends further public consultation may be needed to determine the overall community view.

The report also says that with dredging more pollutants, coliforms and sediments would reach the Macquarie River.
