Bill to Provide Funds for Erie Port Dredging (USA)

A new bill in Congress could mean a major infusion of money for the Erie port, reports erietvnews.com

This legislation would mandate that an import tax go directly to fund improvements to ports, including Erie.

Right now the money stays in a trust fund.

Locally the money would fund improvements including dredging and dock repairs and replacement.

Ray Schreckengost, the Erie Port Authority Executive Director, said, “This bill would free the money up starting on day one. Going forward, all of the money that will come into the trust fund would be spent on harbor maintenance, everything in the trust fund now would stay there.”
