Cuba: Preparation for Casasa Port Dredging Underway

According to Prensa Latina, the Casasa Port is undergoing a renovation to improve conditions and support the development of the Jardines del Rey tourist destination.

Osmin de la Paz, Director of Investment and Maintenance of the Fuel Trading Company in Ciego de Avila, said that work is being done to mark the dredging area and mobilize necessary equipment.

He said they intend to dredge the access channel to the port both deeper and wider, to facilitate the entry of vessels of up to 2,400 tons and 90 meters in length.

The Casasa Port expansion aims to reduce the delivery of fuel by road in order to protect the road and reduce environmental pollution, stated De la Paz.

He said the amount of investment is $50 million Cuban pesos, which is considered one of the argest works undertaken in Coco Key, the main island in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination.
