USA: Shadow Lake Dredging Plan Moves Ahead

The Township Committee finally is moving ahead to hire a contractor to deepen the Shadow Lake by removing contaminated sediment from it.

According to app.com, the Committee on Monday agreed to advertise for bids to dredge the lake and transport the silt to a disposal site in Sayreville.

The dredging needs to be done to increase access to the lake for recreational use, such as swimming, fishing and row-boating, as well as to prevent it from drying up, Mayor Anthony P. Fiore said. That, he said, “would have a tremendous impact on the real estate values in the area around River Plaza.”

Township officials also say the dredging would improve drainage in the area.
