Deltares Delegation Visits South Korea

Deltares participated in a trade mission to South Korea from 17 to 20 June 2012. Central theme of the mission was water management.

The mission was organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture & Innovation, in cooperation with Netherlands Water Partnership and The Netherlands embassy in South Korea.

The mission visited the World fair EXPO 2012 in Yeosu, South Korea, with water as its central theme. More than 100 countries are participating in Expo 2012, which will last until mid August. The focus of the trade delegation was on water management, the Saemangeum reclamation project on the South Korean west coast and on water related research developments, such as hydroelectric power generation.

Deltares has been involved in several Korean projects over the past years, for example the 4River restoration project and several power plant studies.

The delegation made an active contribution to the Dutch pavilion at EXPO 2012. The Netherlands presented itself with the theme “Sustainable Dutch Deltas”. On 18 and 19 June, HRH The Prince of Orange and Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen visited the pavilion.

On the occasion of this visit, the seminar “Water is Life’ was organized.

Tjitte Nauta of Deltares and other delegation members took care of the introduction.
