USA: Dredging on Mississippi River at Brownsville Underway

After a barge ran aground on Tuesday, the Army Corps of Engineers started dredging a stretch of the Mississippi River near Brownsville.

The spokesperson says dredging to deepen the channel began Thursday and should be done very soon.

Until then, the river is closed to barge traffic, according to wxow.com.

A lot of the tow boats and barges are waiting for the dredging operations to finish up so they can continue up and down the river.
