Dredger Arrives at Albert Lea

The recently purchased 2010 IMS 7012 HP 51-foot Versi dredger was unveiled Wednesday afternoon in Albert Lea.

District Administrator Brett Behnke stated: “We’ve seen a significant reduction in sedimentation coming into the lakes, but what we’re still seeing is an immense internal loading. To reduce internal loading you need to remove the sediments and the nutrients in the bottom of the lake.”

According to kimt.com, this is a crucial part of the Shell Rock River Watershed’s ten-year-plan to restore lake quality and habitat not only at Fountain Lake but also other area lakes.

The dredger, which can dig 30-feet deep, had about 2,000 previous hours logged from a Canadian company that dredged near Kellogg, reports albertleatribune.com.
