China: Xiamen Port Dredging Nears End

According to the Port Authority, the $66.8 million widening and deepening of the Xiamen Port main access channel is nearing its completion.

This capital development project will allow the Chinese port to handle 100,000-displacement-ton capacity container vessels in the two-way channel, as well as 150,000-displacement-ton container vessels.

The Xiamen Port Authority reports that the final expansion phase of this very important navigation channel began in 2010, and now the volume of the material that remains to be dredged from the channel is only 3 million cubic meters.
