Brazil: Great Future for Itaqui Port

Daniel Vinent, the Itaqui port director of planning and development, unveiled investment plans for the expansion works at this Maranhão state port.

He said: “Investments include 2.6bn reais for the construction of at least 16 new berths, the rebuilding of existing ones, and dredging works. This also entails the installation of a pier to handle cellulose and pellets, as well as general cargo.”

According to bnamericas.com, this US$3.2bn capital development project will be carried out over the next 20 years, and it should significantly improve performances of the Itaqui port cargo handling capacity.
