USA: Taylor Engineering Selected to Restore FPL Dune

Taylor Engineering Selected to Restore FPL Dune

During the last week of October, 2012, the passage of Hurricane Sandy in the Atlantic Ocean, while well offshore of the St. Lucie Plant site, caused high seas and significant erosion of the protective dune along the shoreline of the FPL’s property.

Specifically, the erosion destroyed a newly constructed dune built as part of headwall stabilization project (seawall) designed by Taylor Engineering.

Agreements developed between FPL and St. Lucie County during seawall permitting require FPL to restore the seawall’s frontal dune following such a severe erosive event. Beyond the localized area of the seawall, the entire shoreline along FPL property also experienced dune erosion, and restoration of the dune along the full length of shoreline may be necessary.

Taylor Engineering, Inc. will provide engineering design and construction drawings for dune restoration.
