LLX, GE Ink Açu Superport Plant Construction Contract

LLX, the logistics company of EBX Group, and GE do Brasil (GE) have signed a contract entailing the construction of a plant in the landside area of Açu Superport, currently under construction in São João da Barra (RJ).

The industrial plant will be installed in the Metalworking Cluster in an area of 322,498 m², primarily to serve the oil and gas and power generation sectors. The contract has a term of 30 years and is renewable for a period of up to 30 years. Construction of the production plant is still subject to the licenses and permits normally required for this type of venture.

The Açu Superport is crucial for increasing the shipping capacity for industrial production and furthering national development. GE will also benefit from the venture’s strategic location to serve the oil and gas and power generation sectors of Brazil even better and provide solutions that can help overcome local challenges“, said Reinaldo Garcia, Chairman and CEO of GE for Latin America.

The installation of a GE plant at the Industrial Complex marks the onset of the occupation of the Metalworking Cluster and demonstrates the confidence major multinationals are placing in the competitive edges of Açu Superport, especially for suppliers of goods and services to the oil and gas and power generation sectors“, asserted Otávio Lazcano, CEO of LLX.

Located in the port’s landside area, the Metalworking Cluster will be fully integrated with TX2’s Multicargo Terminal and will have roads designed to handle special loads such as large, heavyweight equipment. These benefits offer a logistical advantage to businesses setting up operations within the Metalworking Cluster, enabling them to ship out their projects efficiently and seamlessly.

About Açu Superport

LLX, the logistics company of EBX Group, is building the largest port infrastructure investment in the Americas in São João da Barra (RJ). With construction starting in October 2007 and operations forecast to start in 2013, it will have 17 km of piers, with up to 47 mooring berths, including for large vessels.

Açu Superport will have two terminals (TX1 and TX2), with a handling capacity of 350 million metric tons per year, making it one of the three largest port complexes in the world. With a design based on an industrial port theme, it will boast an adjacent industrial district, which will house steel mills, cement mills, a bulk liquid storage base, a metalworking cluster, a shipbuilding yard, a thermal power generation facility, iron ore pelletizing plants, an oil treatment and storage facility, offshore support firms and IT firms clustered into what will become Brazil’s silicon valley, amongst other ventures.
