The Netherlands: New Job for “The Blockbuster”

New Job for The Blockbuster

The Blockbuster, one of the key players in the construction of Maasvlakte 2, will soon commence its “second life.”

The giant crane was transferred to the Caspian Sea for the next project.

The Blockbuster is a modified E-crane produced by manufacturer Indusign.

This machine has a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and can reach 63 m from the heart of the crane. And at this distance, the crane can still position the blocks with a precision of 15 cm.

Titan

Contractor Consortium PUMA used this crane during 2011 and 2012 for the construction of the block, a key component of the hard seawall that Maasvlakte 2 protects against the sea and extreme storms.

During Mid-December 2012, the Blockbuster was disassembled and shipped to the Caspian Sea to work on the Saipem’s new project.

The Blockbuster is getting the second life, and also getting a new name: Titan.
