USA: Hatteras-Ocracoke Dredging 65 Pct Completed

Hatteras-Ocracoke Dredging 65 Pct Completed

Since the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route suspended operations Jan. 18, the contractor hired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has removed 102,723 cubic yards of material to a required depth of 10-feet and the project is approximately 65 percent complete by quantity.

The Dredge Richmond is currently located in the vicinity of navigation aid 9A. The dredge was unable to operate Wednesday afternoon and Thursday last week, due to high winds.

The project being conducted by Cottrell Contracting began Dec. 1, 2012. The USACE will be providing the Ferry Division a weekly report to help keep residents updated on the progress of the project.
