WBDDP: Applications Close on 10 May (Australia)

Applications Close on 10 May

Potential applicants have until Friday, 10 May 2013 to apply for compensation under the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project (WBDDP) Commercial Fisheries Compensation Program.

The WBDDP Commercial Fisheries Compensation Program is being conducted by Gladstone Ports Corporation Limited (GPC) to provide compensation to eligible commercial fishing operators affected by a loss of access to fishing areas and marine fish habitat in the Western Basin of the Port of Gladstone due to maritime development in that region.

GPC encourages eligible commercial fishing operators who fished in catch sites 12, 13, 17 and 18 of Grid S30 in Gladstone Harbour to review the information set out on the WBDDP Commercial Fisheries Compensation Program website, and to submit an application for compensation by Friday, 10 May 2013.

GPC CEO Leo Zussino said he would like to see every eligible commercial fishing operator take advantage of the opportunity for compensation and apply.

“If you’re a commercial fishing operator and have been affected by a loss of access to fishing areas due to current developments I would encourage you to apply,” Mr Zussino said.

All applications received will be assessed by GPC – and as such, commercial fishing operators who believe that they may have special circumstances which should be taken into consideration by GPC in assessing their eligibility for, and/or the relevant amount of, compensation are similarly encouraged to apply, and provide appropriate supporting evidence in their application for assessment by GPC.
