Lake St. Clair Dredging Underway

A lot of dredging projects are currently underway on the canals and marinas around Lake St. Clair, according to clickondetroit.com.

These dredging works are needed because of low lake levels, said Doug Wilson, the boat owner, and added: “They (sailboats) have fixed keels that give them four-foot draft and they have to go somewhere else or go out early or they’ll get stuck.”

Joe Ahee, the director of public service for Grosse Pointe Woods, stated that the cleanup works at Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront Park are intended to help those sailboats, reports clickondetroit.com.

They have problems with their fixed keels and we’re taking it down to a five-foot depth also,” concluded Ahee.

The Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront dredging program should be completed by May 1, and this area will be open for boaters by then.
