Fiji: Ba River Dredging Could Prevent Flooding

Ba River Dredging Could Prevent Flooding

Dredging works conducted during the mining of black sand at the mouth of the Ba River could help in reducing the impact of flooding, reports fijitimes.

Amex Resources Limited, an iron ore focused, mineral resources development company, has designed a dredging plan that will leave a 500 metre channel from the mouth of the river out to sea which should help improve water outflow, and prevent flooding of this area.

The dredging project will result in increased flood discharge capacity, reduced flooding frequencies and duration, reclamation of additional land for village development and it will also improve the drainage system.
