Officials Seek Comments on JAXPORT Deepening

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, has released a draft report regarding the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening Study, which kicks off an official comment period.

The District is conducting a study to increase the depth of the existing federal channel from 40-feet to a maximum depth of 47-feet from the mouth of the St. Johns River to JAXPORT’s facilities on Jacksonville’s Northside.

The deepening is essential to growing the benefits of Jacksonville’s public port facilities, which help create tens of thousands of jobs for the Northeast Florida region.

In addition, the public is invited to learn more about the project and comment during a public meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal.
