Sandy Bay Reclamation Works Underway

HM Government of Gibraltar announced recently that major coastal protection and beach regeneration works will shortly be carried out in Sandy Bay beach following extensive engineering studies of the coastal processes affecting the beach.

The works will entail the construction of offshore coastal defences in the form of curved groynes at each end of Sandy Bay.

This project is one of the Government’s manifesto commitments and one that will see Sandy Bay’s regeneration.

Although at present the beach is virtually non-existent, a first phase of sand importation will be undertaken in order to allow the public to enjoy a reasonably sized beach during this summer.
