Nigeria: Major Rivers Dredging Nears Completion

Major Rivers Dredging Nears Completion

According to Prince Ayodeji Aleshinloye, the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, a dredging program on four major rivers in the local government is nearing its completion.

Dredging of the AgaraAba Ibeji, Odo-Ona KekereArapaja, Odo-Ona Elewe and Odo-Ona Nla rivers was imperative in order to allow free flow of water when there is down pour, he said, and added: “We have also completed the palliative measures of clearing drains, constructing culverts and carried out massive advocacy on the realities of environmental disasters across the local government,” reports tribune.com.

Without the cooperation with the British American Tobacco (BATN) Foundation, who financially supported this dredging project, the four rivers cleanup program would not have achieved the wanted result, concluded Aleshinloye.
