MMDA Solicits Bids for Marikina River Dredging

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is calling on bidders for its proposed P49.9-million project to dredge the Marikina River downstream of Rosario Weir in Pasig City, reports philstar.com.

Marikina River is a river in eastern Metro Manila, Philippines. It is a tributary of Pasig River with headwaters located in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Rodriguez, Rizal province.

Due to negligence and industrial development, the river has become very polluted, an act which recent Marikina City administrations have attempted to address.

Marikina River dredging is part of an anti-flood control plan of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Deadline for the submission of Bidding Documents is August 19.

Flood prevention projects, like river dikes construction and dredging activities at the Marikina River to easily access the Marikina Watershed, are also planned to combat perennial flooding.
