Corps Presents Tangier Island Dredging Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, has announced a plan to invite bids for the Tangier Island dredging project.

The main goals of this maintenance dredging program are to remove critical shoals from the Tangier Island channels, restore previously authorized navigable depth and provide safe access for shallow draft vessels transiting there.

During the project, which should be performed by a cutter-head pipeline dredger, approximately 55,500 cubic yards of material will be removed from the mentioned area.

The estimated value of the Tangier Channels dredging venture is between $1 mln and $5 mln, and the anticipated date of the solicitation is on or about 19 September 2013.
