The Philippines: Cadiz City Dredging Program Underway
The 30 megawatt diesel-powered power plant being constructed in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental will be operational in the middle of 2014, Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante said.
Escalante, former mayor of Cadiz, said Monday the power plant in Hacienda Paz is currently under construction, and equipment and machines have started to arrive.
“The power they will produce will go the grid of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines which manages the power lines of the country,” he said.
“The dredging in the area is also ongoing,” Escalante added.
Regarding the opposition of some sectors to the coal- fired power plant, the board member said the city government’s obligation is to create opportunities for its people.
“According to the survey conducted by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in the barangay level, 94 percent of Cadiznons are agreeable to the plant,” Escalante said.
