UK: MMO Approves Repair Work at Beesands

MMO Approves Repair Work at Beesands

The Marine Management Organisation has approved an application from South Hams District Council for urgent repair work at Beesands, Devon.

Following recent bad weather the existing rock armour coastal defence at Beesands was breached resulting in a 130 metre by 30 metre section of coastal erosion and the distance between nearby properties and the beach edge reducing by around 30%.

The project will construct a realigned coastal defence using existing and around 300 new boulders to form new rock armour.

It was considered an emergency due to the potential risk to property and infrastructure from any future storms.
