Two more Nominations for Littlehaven Project

Business & Finance

Two nominations in the Constructing Excellence in the North East of England awards has meant the highly lauded Littlehaven Promenade and Sea Wall project has now been shortlisted for 11 awards.

The development is in the running for Project of the Year and Young Achiever of the Year, with Royal HaskoningDHV’s Steve Burdett singled out for his on-site supervision role throughout the project.

The Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards showcase excellence and celebrate the achievements of organisations from across the region.

The Littlehaven Promenade and Sea Wall project combines the practicality of a sustainable sea defence with amenity. Driven by South Tyneside Council, the scheme in South Shields delivered enhanced amenities in the form of better accessibility and connectivity to the seafront, riverside and the regenerated town centre.

The scheme, initiated in 2009, officially opened in early 2014. The project team consisted of South Tyneside Council, contractors Galliford Try and landscape architects Oobe, working alongside consultants Royal HaskoningDHV.

The Littlehaven scheme has previously won the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) North East Renaissance Awards 2014 for Infrastructure, and the ICE North East Robert Stephenson Award for projects over £4m.

It also has commendation from the Concrete Society Awards in 2014, was a Regional Finalist at the Civic Trust Awards 2014 and has received nominations in two categories at the Placemaking Awards 2015 and one category at the Construction News Awards 2015.

The Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards ceremony takes place on Friday 8 May 2015 at the Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel.
