One More Contender for Lake Erie Lawsuit

Business & Finance

The Port of Cleveland is about to join the State of Ohio lawsuit that should protect Lake Erie water quality and local jobs.

The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority yesterday filed a motion in federal court to join the State of Ohio as a plaintiff in litigation to resolve a dispute with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding the proper management of material dredged from Cleveland harbor and the responsibility for associated costs.

By joining the suit, the Port seeks to protect and assert its interests arising from the powers and duties entrusted to it by the Ohio General Assembly and from the Port’s unique position in the matter.

According to the Port, it joins the State of Ohio in seeking immediate relief from the Army Corps actions that threaten local jobs and commerce, and pose unnecessary risk to human health, the environment, and Ohio’s greatest natural resource – Lake Erie.
