Sandwich Defense Scheme Nears End

Business & Finance

Construction of the Sandwich Town Tidal Defense scheme is progressing well. At Richborough Road a new flood wall has been built and erosion protection works to the river bank are now complete.

Although sections of the new flood defenses are now finished, there are landscaping works still needed to be carried out in some areas.

In order to keep the local community up to date on the development of the town’s new Tidal Defense scheme, the Environment Agency will on Thursday, 21 May 2015, hold a public drop-in session in Sandwich.

The project team will be on hand to discuss the project with the local community and provide an update on the progress of the works, which have been underway since March 2013.

The Environment Agency expects the work to be substantially complete by Summer 2015. The scheme will cost approximately £21.7 million, with contributions from Pfizer and Kent County Council.
