Shoreway and Orca Accident Report Published
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) report of the collision between dredger Shoreway and yacht Orca, 7 miles off the coast of Felixstowe, England, is now published.
Investigation report into this marine accident with the loss of 1 life contains details of what happened, action taken, safety lessons and recommendations made.
As a reminder, on Saturday, 8 June 2014, the dredger Shoreway was in collision with a 31 foot sailing yacht “Orca”. The yacht suffered catastrophic damage and sank within minutes. There was no damage to the dredger.
The skipper of the yacht was rescued from the water by Shoreway’s rescue boat. The body of his wife was recovered from the sunken yacht by divers the following day. A postmortem concluded that the cause of death was by drowning.
