Cleveland Breakwater Repair Starts
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has begun repair work to the Cleveland Harbor East Breakwater to repair the $24.9 million worth of damages caused by Superstorm Sandy, October 2012.
Repair work to the 3,200 linear feet of breakwater is being completed by Great Lakes Dock & Materials L.L.C., Muskegon, MI and includes the placement of armor stone as well as 12,577 precast 8-ton dolos that began this week.
“The Cleveland Harbor Hast Breakwater experienced extensive damage during Sandy because of the oversized waves and the extreme angle they were hitting the structure,” said Captain Kelly Polashenski, USACE project manager. “Because the damage was caused by Sandy, the breakwater was eligible of funding to repair the structure using Superstorm Sandy appropriations.”
As part of the $24.9 million dollar contract, 12,577 dolosse will be cast by Lindsay Concrete Products Co., located south of Cleveland in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
