Carmichael Coal Mine Project Approved

The Australian Government has reached the decision to reissue approval for the biggest new coal mine in Australia — Adani’s 28,000-hectare Carmichael mine in Queensland.

The Carmichael coal mine and Rail Project is an open-cut and underground coal mine located approximately 300 kilometers inland in remote central Queensland.

Greenpeace Australia yesterday condemned the federal government’s reapproval of the Carmichael mine, calling it ‘a bad idea on every level’.

Carmichael would be a complete disaster for the climate and the Great Barrier Reef,” said Greenpeace campaigner Shani Tager. “This project means more dredging in the Great Barrier Reef, more ships through its waters and more carbon emissions.”
