Comment Period Opens for Sirius T-Rex Marina Plans

Business & Finance

The Moravian Church Conference Sirius (T-Rex) Marina plans have entered the Army Corps permitting process and just been released for Public Comment, with a due date of January 25th.

The plans call for construction of a 92 slip marina for vessels 35 to 70 feet in length, an on-shore 30 powerboat dry stack storage building and a boat ramp.

T-Rex estimated construction of the marina and its facilities would take a year and would require dredging 3,890 cubic feet of sea floor, according to the Army Corps notice.

Approximately 580 cubic yards of the dredged material will be discharged behind the steel sheet-pile for the construction of the bulkhead.

The remaining dredged material will be disposed of and spread out to a height of two feet over an upland area of 44,600 ft2, located to the west of the marina, just southwest of the intersection of Hwys. 10 and 17.

The project would directly impact 0.1465 acres of man-groves, 1.236 acres of seagrasses and temporarily disrupt public use of the boat ramp and dinghy dock, according to the notice.

The Coral Bay Community Council will also host a CBCC Forum on the development plans for the Marina project on Monday, January 11th, at 6 to 7:30pm at the John’s Folly Learning Institute in Coral Bay.
