Kamarajar Port Development Includes Dredging

Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) will be commissioning five projects within the next three years, according to Mr. M.A. Bhaskarachar, the Chairman and Managing Director of KPL.

A significant amount of money is being invested in new projects to keep pace with competition from neighboring ports such as L&T Kattupalli Port, Karaikal, Tuticorin, Chennai and Krishnapatnam Ports, Bhaskarachar said to local media.

With the completion of these projects, KPL’s terminal handling capacity will increase from 36 million tonnes to 80 million tonnes by 2018 and touch 100 million tonnes by 2020, the chairman added.

The major projects, that are in the various stages of construction, include: new container terminal, coal berths III and IV, multi-purpose cargo berth, liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and capital dredging.
