Dredge McFarland Busy in Wilmington
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers trailing suction hopper dredge “McFarland” was once again deployed for its second call out of the fiscal year 2016 for an emergency dredging assignment.
The dredge was assigned to the Wilmington Harbor, Outer Ocean Bar and Baldhead Shoal Channel.
The crew of “McFarland” recently completed a 45 day urgent dredging tour at the mouth of the Mississippi River and was on its way back to Philadelphia when the Red Flag was raised for Wilmington Harbor.
By the time dredge was passing by North Carolina, USACEHQ ordered “McFarland” to respond to the urgent need of dredging the shoaled areas in Wilmington Harbor.
The emergency dredging operations started on March 16th and will end on the 31st.
