Piet Brouwer Starts Work on WASA Project

Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has confirmed a new order from Finish-based WASA Dredging for the design, construction and installation of the whole electrical system on board two new split barges.

The company will also supply the alarm system, fire detection and steering consoles for the 65-meter vessels.

The hard soil and many boulders in Scandinavian waters often require that the ground be blown up with explosives, after which backhoe dredgers dig it up and split barges take away the dredged material.

The project has a relatively short lead time, and is expected to finish in early October. Piet Brouwer has already started its engineering work.

WASA Dredging already has a job lined up for the two vessels, so the short construction time and our flexibility & methods are critical for this project,” project manager Peter Roskam explains.

The complete construction of the two split barges will take place at the Scheepswerf Pattje yard in Waterhuizen near Groningen.
