JF Brennan Ready for the Crats Island Unloading Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is scheduled to begin a dredged material unloading project at Crats Island, in Wabasha, Minnesota, the first week of August.

JF Brennan Marine from La Crosse, Wisconsin, mobilized to the site in June and has been preparing for the $8.7 million worth island unload project.

If all goes according to schedule, the unloading should be completed by the end of 2017.

The contractor is hydraulically removing and pumping 900,000 cubic yards of dredged material nearly 5 miles from Crats Island and permanently placing it at the Corps’ Wabasha Gravel Pit Upland Placement Site in Wabasha.

The Corps is removing the material from the island to ensure there is enough room for the future placement of dredged material from the Mississippi River.
