Dawlish Warren Lecture Set for June 6

The Dawlish Warren Beach Management Scheme will be presented at the upcoming Institution of Civil Engineers (South West) lecture in Plymouth.

The event is set to take place at the Devonport Lecture Theater, Plymouth University, on June 6th 2017.

As part of the Exe Estuary Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy, the beach management scheme will be undertaken by BMMJV (BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald) for the Environment Agency and Teignbridge District Council.

The scheme is designed to reduce the risk of erosion to the narrow section of the spit (the Neck) and includes dredging works to replenish the beach, the repair and replacement of timber groynes and the installation of a geotube hard defense within the dune system.

Richard Cox, the Environment Agency Project Manager for the scheme, will introduce the presentation. Dr Paul Canning of Atkins will discuss the flood risk and design considerations of the scheme, while Lawrence Jones, a Chartered Civil Engineer and Sub Agent with BAM Nuttall Ltd, will explain the nature of the beach management scheme currently under construction.

The talk will also include the significant public interaction involved and the environmental considerations associated with work.
