Noakhali Flood Control Project Includes Dredging

Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, today inaugurated work on the Noakhali flood control project, aimed to improve water drainage system and control intrusion of silts and saline water.

She kicked off the development scheme via video conference from her Ganabhaban residence in Dhaka, local media reports.

Our utmost goal is to ensure overall development of the country. With this view, this government has designed various schemes whenever we have come to power,” said the premier.

The project will re-dig 182km of canals, dredge the Bamani River, construct sluice gates, closures and regulators and preserve 10km of river banks.

This major development program will be implemented jointly by the Bangladesh Water Development Board and the military.

The Noakhali flood control project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021.
