Van Oord opts for DEMCON

DEMCON unmanned systems and Van Oord have signed a contract for another DEMCON unmanned systems USV vessel.

With this piece of equipment, Van Oord will expand their unmanned fleet with a second DUS V2500 type USV platform for hydrographic surveying applications.

Their first vessel, named VO:X Metiri, is increasingly being deployed after last year’s integration. As a result, additional capacity is required to keep up with Dutch and international project demand, DEMCON said.

The new USV platform will be suitable for all inland water applications as well as near and shallow offshore areas, and also from operations in drinking water basins to coastal areas.

According to DEMCON, key features are the high maneuverability (autopilot/DP control), robustness and environmentally friendliness.

“We have been working closely with Van Oord since 2018, developing small unmanned vessels, autonomous technology and workflow automation. The fleet expansion shows Van Oord’s innovation drive and commitment to safe, remote, sustainable and digital operations,” said the company.

Delivery is scheduled for early Q3.
