Building Atlantis for dredged material

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, is building an Atlantis for dredged material in Ashtabula, Ohio.

“Over 400,000 cubic yards of material will call an underwater confined disposal facility home so we can later create 16 acres of new aquatic habitat for the people of Ohio,” said USACE.

USACE has awarded the $6.5 million contract to Great Lakes Dock and Materials, L.L.C. for the construction of the beneficial use of dredged material placement area designed to handle this amount of material.

This project is being conducted in close coordination with the Ashtabula City Port Authority, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
