Dredging of two harbors in Northern Norway about to begin

NCC is about to begin with improvement work on the harbors in Hammerfest and Forsöl in Northern Norway, on behalf of Hammerfest Municipality and the Norwegian Coastal Administration.

The assignment involves comprehensive environmental remediation work and upgrading, and is scheduled for completion in 2023.

The order value is approximately SEK 345 million ($38 million).

The background to the assignment is an order by the Norwegian Environment Agency to decontaminate the polluted sediment on the seabed in Hammerfest Harbor. The project carries the name Ren hamn (Clean harbor).

NCC’s work includes demolition of the existing quay structure and construction of a new one, establishment of a depository for contaminated material, environmental dredging and capping in Hammerfest Harbor, as well as a deepening of the harbors in both Hammerfest and Forsöl.

NCC will conduct the assignment together with its subsidiary Sjöentreprenören.

Work will start as soon as possible and is scheduled for completion in August 2023.
