Dredging season begins in Ventura Harbor

Another dredging project got underway this week in Ventura Harbor to deepen the federal navigation channel and sand traps to their authorized levels.

This annual project includes maintenance dredging of the harbor federal navigation channel and sand traps, with placement of dredge material on the nearby beach.

According to the Corps, the Los Angeles District is working with contractor Manson Construction Co., which is placing the dredge material on the nearby South Beach. This is expected to help replenish the beach to alleviate sand erosion.

“Though parts of the beach adjacent to the project are available for recreation, large sections of the beach are off-limits to ensure the safety of residents and visitors,” said USACE.

The projected completion timeframe is mid-March.
