Elmina Harbour expansion nears end

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, inspected ongoing construction works on the Elmina Fishing Harbour expansion project two days ago.

The 30-month program started on August 1, 2020, following the sod cutting ceremony conducted by President Akufo-Addo.

During the visit, the Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, informed the President that the project is currently 91% complete, following completion of:

  • south breakwater,
  • north breakwater,
  • sheet-piling,
  • dredging,
  • scour and ploughing,
  • land reclamation works.

The main goals of the Elmina Fishing Port Rehabilitation and Expansion Project are securing adequate facilities, berthing space and creating a deep marine access, ensuring the durability of the Elmina harbour.
