A trio of lakes in Victoria’s west have upgrades on the way, Better Boating Victoria said.

More than $1m will upgrade boat ramps at Rocklands Reservoir, Lake Lonsdale and Lake Toolondo thanks to the Better Boating Fund reinvesting boaters’ licence and registration fees.

“We’ve worked with Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water to progress plans for the projects, with work starting very soon,” BBV said.

At Rocklands, the Hynes boat ramp near Glenisla will be concreted, made steeper and extended to provide access at a greater range of water levels.

Access roads and parking will be formalised to make access to the ramp and the water much easier, especially for two-wheel drive vehicles.

Further north near Stawell, Lake Lonsdale is in line for improvements through a second ramp lane being added to boost capacity.

The existing ramp features a rock wall to protect from south-westerly winds and wave action.

At Toolondo, the south-west ramp will be replaced with a concrete surface and made steeper to make launching easier.

Expanded parking and improved access roads are also on the cards. Work will first be undertaken at Lake Lonsdale, and crews will be making a start in coming days.
