USACE Commanding General meets with hopper dredge industry

USACE Commanding General Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon and key staff met yesterday with representatives of the hopper dredge industry at USACE headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Discussions included current and future navigation program requirements and funding, dredging safety, and continuing partnerships and coordination.

The nation’s dredging contractors and the USACE dredge fleet play a critical role in maintaining the waterways and harbors that are crucial to the movement of goods and products that support the U.S. economy and quality of life.

Dredges are currently working around the clock to ensure barges and vessels can continue to safely navigate the Mississippi River during low water conditions.

The dredge season typically begins as soon as the spring water rise is over, in April or May, and ends some time in December.
