Segoditshane River dredging wraps up

The Chinese Enterprises Association in Botswana handed over the Segoditshane River dredging project to Gaborone City Council yesterday.

The project, which began on February 28, is set to help address the city’s drainage issues during the rainy season.

“It is truly a great pleasure and honor to be receiving this well-done job by the Chinese contractors,” Gaborone’s Mayor Austin Abraham said during the handover ceremony, adding that the project was carried out as part of corporate social responsibility.

Abraham also said that the desilting process will last for at least two years aiding for flow of water especially during rainy season.

For his part, Chief Civil and Mechanical Engineering Officer, Mr Gaborone Phiri, said that the City Council will continue monitoring and maintaining the bridge so that it doesn’t block again.

Mr Phiri said that, for a long term solution, there is a need to upgrade drainage systems.
