Construction work is about to begin on the $4 million Kirk Point boat ramp upgrade, Better Boating Victoria (BBV) said.

The ramp will be out of action from Monday, 15 May.

Crews will initially set up the site before beginning work on adding a second ramp lane, a jetty and a breakwater.

“It’s expected the upgrade will take around 5 months to complete. Ramp manager Parks Victoria is overseeing things, with construction carried out by Bridgewater Marine,” said BBV.

“Accessing western Port Phillip will be made easier with construction nearing for boating upgrades at Kirk Point boat ramp.”

Kirk Point is a single-lane ramp located east of Avalon Airport in The Spit Wildlife Reserve.

The existing ramp is exposed and does not feature a pontoon or jetty to allow for boats to be tied up, limiting capacity.
